The accused confessed to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

An individual who laced treats with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two children aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.

She said the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities once more.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
