Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51M viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
