Royal Air Force Typhoon jets have operated alongside French aircraft in a coordinated attack against an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the Daesh militant organization, as stated by the British defence ministry.
The location, identified by intelligence, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was situated in hills just north of the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a several approach shafts leading to the facility... initial indications suggest the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the attack conducted Saturday night and each participating jet made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon fighters were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
